Keys to Victory
1. Take What the Defense Gives You – Iowa was daring the Cyclones to beat them with the running game and short passing game, but ISU continued to force the ball down field and the results were disastrous. I suspect that Kent State will try to stop the Iowa State running game. The Cyclones have a giant offensive line and the Golden Flashes are undersized up front. It should be a great opportunity for Austen and the Cyclone passing game to break out this week.
2. Win Turnover Battle – I am SURE this one has been addressed this week. If Iowa State wants to win on the road they need to win the turnover battle.
3. Get After the Freshman QB – Kent State true freshman QB Spencer Keith will be making his first start and it is very important that the Clones make him feel uncomfortable.
Players to Watch
2. Christopher Lyle – Iowa State needs to get pressure and Lyle is the guy that should be able to do it. He just needs to keep his fingers out of the quarterbacks facemask.
3. Sedrick Johnson and/or Darius Darks – One of these guys has to break out this week.
Prediction
I believe Paul Rhoads has had this game circled since he took the job at Iowa State. If the Cyclones are going to be successful in the Paul Rhoads era they need to win on the road. What a statement it would be to get a win in his first road game. The team can go one of two ways after the debacle last week in Ames, I believe the Cyclones will play their best game this week against Kent State. Austen will rebound with a great performance and Iowa State will finally rely on their best weapon to win the game (Alexander Robinson).
