The Iowa State Cyclones scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Colorado Buffaloes 31-21. The Cyclone defense came up big to start the third quarter stopping the Buffaloes on 4th and 1 at their own 43 yard line. Three Alexander Robinson runs later and the Cyclones were on the board with their first touchdown.
The next two Cyclone drives ended in touchdowns as well when senior QB Bret Meyer hooked up with senior WR Todd Blythe on touchdown passes of 12 and 55 yards. The final Cyclone touchdown was set up when Jesse Smith knocked the ball loose from Hugh Charles and Alvin Bowen recovered at the Colorado 43. Alexander Robinson went around right end for a 9 yard touchdown run six plays later putting the Cyclones ahead 31-21.
Colorado was in position to tie the game late in the fourth quarter but ran out of time when James Smith tackled Tyson DeVree in bounds with seconds remaining and the Buffaloes out of timeouts.
