The Cyclones have several players that are currently not listed or buried on the depth chart that may play huge roles in 2007. Here are some of my favorites.
1. QB Phillip Bates – Will the Cyclones redshirt the freshman or find creative ways to get him in the lineup this season? I wouldn’t be surprised to see #8 inserted in the lineup at several positions. He has the speed and the shake which will remind some Clone fans of Seneca Wallace.
2. TE Patrick Neal – John’s little brother looks really comfortable at tight end. He runs smooth routes, has good hands and gets up field quickly.
3. LB Fred Garrin – Freddy will push Jesse Smith for playing time. Garrin has the physical tools but is trying to figure out the position. When everything sinks in look out for #43.
4. LB Cameron Bell – The coaching staff moved him for a reason. He looked very good as a RB, so they must think he has a better chance of seeing the field at LB. Has the size and speed to play the position, but he needs time to learn.
5. DL Bailey Johnson – Bailey impressed as a redshirt and he continues to impress this fall. He will be in the rotation on the DL and could be a dominant player when he adds more size and strength.
6. DE Chris Lyle – Lyle can put the heat on the quarterback. Time will tell if he can be a complete DE, but we should see him on passing downs.
7. WR Milan Moses – Moses wasn’t listed on the two deeps at WR, but Chizik mentioned he is searching for gamers at the press conference today. Milan is a gamer.
